Charlie Murphy, the beloved comedian, writer and older brother of Eddie Murphy, has died after a battle with leukemia.
He was 57.
The funnyman passed away Wednesday morning at a New York City hospital, TMZ reported, citing his manager. He had been undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
His family was reportedly stunned by his untimely death and had believed Murphy was recovering. Murphy had even teased his family that they called him too often during his fight with the disease.
Our hearts are heavy with the loss today of our son, brother, father, uncle and friend Charlie,” his family said in a statement. “Charlie filed our family with love and laughter and there won’t be a day that goes by that his presence will not be missed.”
