Just Listen: A Message For Racist Trolls

I know what your stances on racism are primarily about. There are some of you who continue not to believe that racism is a significant problem in today’s society. There are those of you who claim that any accusations or claims of racism is ‘leftist’ and therefore, untruthful and to be scorned. And then, there are those of you who believe that black racism is alive and it’s just as harmful as white racism. Yeah, I heard all of these and more, and I want to laugh, but I can’t, because it’s gotten quite dull and pathetic.

I wish there are things that I can say that will open your minds, but I’m not that brilliant in my choice of words. Instead, I’ve allowed your words to cause painful feelings of anger and frustration, your words in the guise of having an “open conversation” where you represent the “other side”. Your side usually defends racism in some way, shape or form masked as an intelligent disagreement or rebuttal to any and all claims and facts that racism is still around and is still hurting millions of people of color in this country alone.

By stating in your words, as many or as few as possible, that racism is not a major factor in today’s world is to allow racism to go unchecked. Whether you want to face it or not, that is part of the problem! It’s like having a disease and pretending that you’re still 100% fine. You’re helping a cancer destroy a country that many of you claim that you love. You don’t want to see this disease. You want to pretend that it’s not there or even have faith that it will go away on its own. But as you continue to convince yourselves and others that lie, that disease is tearing apart the nation that you wave flags for. So, how can you sit there and defend something that is killing many people, including children?

There are mounds upon mounds of proof that racism is structural and institutional. Why do you refuse to take them seriously and instead believe in the falsehood that it’s all hype? I can only guess that since you haven’t really experienced what it’s truly like, you think it’s never there in the first place. You never knew what it’s like to live as a person of color in this nation. And this is not an attempt to play on your sympathies, but this is merely stating a common sense fact that you can never truly know anyone unless you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.

Yet, some of you claim to know me and my people better than we know ourselves. Not only is that insulting but also arrogant and ignorant. It’s another attempt to avoid another person’s truth, a truth you refuse to consider as another dimension to a life that you know little about and refuse to know. I’ve seen it happen many times and it pisses me off.

Many of you will not wonder what’s going on with that person or why is he/she in the state of mind that he/she is in, because that’s not in your nature. Many of you don’t care to know what’s wrong with that person like a descent human being should. Hell, you wouldn’t dream of taking an effort to find out how to fix their problems. No. You, instead, would look down and put down that person in all your fury, because you’re too full of yourselves with egotism and rage to care. And a select group of you use that to persuade yourselves that your skin color somehow signifies near God-like superiority.

I know the conservative and liberal lot of you will come in full force to cast me down into the fires of hell for speaking my mind. Like I said, I’m not that brilliant of a writer. But try to convince me that you’re not soulless, mindless douchebags with one track minds, and maybe I’ll listen. Maybe.

Maybe you should start listening to what people of color are trying to tell you instead of crying about hurt feelings when you’re participating in the damage. Maybe you should not make assumptions and just hear the words of people whose experiences you are unfamiliar with. Maybe you should act more like a civilized person and just listen.

  1. Brotha, these fools are not interested in what you have to say. They feel they are intellectually superior to black people and as a result it behooves us to listen to what they say. They have no interested in ‘debating’ rather they wish to denigrate. As for your writing skills, you get your message across which not many writes can do. Keep up the good work and ignore these fools!

  2. Are you going to let me, or others, respond? If not, then you’re worse than what you’re accusing us of.
Or are you just going to throw out your accusation without allowing me and others to defend ourselves? I know whom you’re accusing of being a racist troll and if you don’t allow a response, then your rant was nothing more than pointless bombast. And cowardly to boot.
The reason I ask is because as soon as someone disagrees with you, you ban them. I’ve followed your blog with some interest, precisely BECAUSE for some reason you seem to attract intelligent, usually polite (not SnowMan) disagreement. People that you then ban.
I await your response. If you allow a response, I’ll keep it calm, and polite and I’ll respond to what you said above. I suspect others will as well. If YOU listen to THEM, which is something you’re REALLY not good at, you’ll see that it is YOU who are not listening, but who are merely spouting off.
BW, you’re very good with written words. You’re really BAD at LISTENING, and at understanding OTHERS’ words. Bottom line: You CAN’T just write an “open letter” as you did above, and not let the targets respond. That’s a coward’s game.
    Again, I await your response.

  3. Co-sign with Herneith. Trolls are a waste of time, breath, and thought. They aren’t interested in engaging in any meaningful dialogue; they merely want to verbally pound you with inane circular ‘logic’ and choke you with confirmation bias. They’re really not worth losing sleep over.

You make your point very well. Keep it up.
    🙂

This is just saying things. There are some who say this and some who say that. So what? What do YOU say about it that is of value? What can YOU say that proves ANY of them wrong? I’ve read your stuff, and you are long on quoting leftist, racist propaganda that has long been discredited, and short on either facts or reliable statistics. You’re ALSO all about pointing to single incidents and saying, “See? See? That PROVES that the ENTIRE country is racist!” Nope. That proves that there was a single incident.

Then, as usually happens, time passes and we see that even the single incident was not what the press reported it to be! (Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, for examples.) What’s gotten dull and pathetic is YOUR inability to counter a couple of important things: (1) Black people are NOT leaving this supposedly horrible, racist country to get to a better place, and (2) the problem this supposedly racist country has is how to prevent itself from being OVERRUN by black and brown people trying to get IN. Go ahead, prove that wrong.

    My response:
Hogwash! You have NOT “allowed any words to cause” anything. If words hurt someone, then that someone needs to buck him or herself up, and use words right back that prove the other words wrong. Simple as that. Words never hurt anyone. Words CAN NEVER hurt anyone. And words are out there available to everyone in the world to use, to make themselves heard.

“My side” never ever defends racism, and never has, and you know it. Stop making this disgusting accusation.

Look, if you’re going to try to make your points, then you have to make at least a TINY attempt not to say nonsense. Racism has never hurt anyone in the history of the world. Racism is a state of mind. It’s an attitude. If a non-racist doesn’t hire you, but a racist does, then the non-racist has hurt you a whole lot more than the racist. The point is that it’s what racists might do that can hurt, NOT their racism.

There is just no indication that white people are DOING anything in any widespread sense in America that is hurting black people because of the color of their skin. Simple as that.

Furthermore, no one can know what whites are thinking, but it’s plain that they’re not DOING anything bad to black people anymore, except in isolated incidents that have no bearing on how the country is as a whole. Whites haven’t been DOING bad things to black people for more than half a century.

That doesn’t excuse the fact that they DID those things in the long ago past, but it DOES prove that RACISM is not hurting black people today. THAT’s the point, when others have said that “racism” is not a big problem in American anymore.” It’s not a difficult thing to understand, BW, but it is THE point. It’s a point that I, and others, have made many, many times, and that you have completely ignored. You don’t listen to others unless they agree with you. Simple as that.

    My response:
Racism IS a major factor in the world, but not in America, and not as YOU believe it to be a problem. There IS racism in the white population, and it is in the condescending belief on the American left that black people can’t make it in America, that black people are children, that black people are less intelligent, less mature, less under control. But, you’re a leftist, so you apparently believe the same thing. Oh, you’ll try to pretend you’re not a leftist, but here’s some evidence on your own site that says you ARE: You have an “I Voted” button on your site. I’m figuring you didn’t vote Republican. Further to the right than “Republican” is “Libertarian.” I’ll bet you didn’t vote for Ron Paul in the Republican primaries for President. No, you voted either Democrat (Obama) or left of Democrat (some fringe party like: Socialist, Green, Demcoratic Socialist, Communist). Go ahead, deny it. I’m figuring, however, that YOU voted for Obama twice. That means only one thing: You’re either a leftist, or your a leftist stooge. Take your pick, they’re the same thing.

I’ve never supported racism in any sense ever. And I don’t support YOUR racism either. YOU accused ME of being a racist only because of the color of my skin. You generalize ALL THE TIME about white people, based only on the color of their skin. YOU are a racist, and you try to fob off YOUR racism on me and on my children, and I will not allow that to go unresponded to. If you don’t allow this to be published, then I will start my own blog and expose you for the racist fraud you are.

Again, racism kills no one. It’s only a state of mind. The ACTS of a racist are the things that can hurt. White people are simply not committing a lot of racist acts anymore. Go ahead, prove that wrong. Even if I were to admit that ALL your isolated incidents were caused by racist whites, that would prove MY point. A racist incident here and there in a country of more than 300 million people indicates that the country is a racial paradise relative to others! Again, so-called “people of color” are trying to pour INTO so-called “racist” America, not out. There’s virtually NOBODY trying to get OUT of America.

By the way, the words I’m using are in support of ideas. You have no problem whatsoever with words. You write well and fluently. YOU have a problem with IDEAS. Your words are poor tools because your ideas are simplistic and shallow. Your thinking is full of holes, and there are not words that can effectively express silly ideas. You’re not at all bad with words; you’re bad with ideas. You can change that by not being such a blind follower of racist charlatans, and becoming a critical thinker.

    My response:
This is hogwash. There are NO “mounds of proof” that racism is structural and institutional, precisely because institutions are made of concrete and metal and wood. They can have no state of mind. They can’t be racist, only people can. If you are trying to say that the structures of institutions are set up by racist whites to disadvantage black people, then you are going to have to offer some evidence of that. But, you can’t, because the FACT is that white people have been trying their hardest to open the doors of opportunity in business, sports, entertainment, education, politics and everywhere else for more than half a century. Go ahead, prove that wrong. How do I know this? Simple there are more black people in ALL these fields than ever before, and there is a black President, lots of black governors, mayors, Senators, States Senators, Congressmen, city councilmen. I know, I know, I’m only quoting YOUR friend Lavern Meriwether, who said the same thing.

I thank you for admitting that you can’t know me until you’ve walked a mile in my shoes. Maybe now you’ll stop making garbage accusations against me.

What it’s like to live as a black or brown person in America is NOT something that a white person can understand, but here’s something that EVERYONE can understand: if you follow the same rules as everyone else is expected to follow in America, then you can do just fine. I forget who it was who pointed it out on YOUR blog, but if you get an education, and don’t have kids out of wedlock, then regardless of your race, you’ll do just fine in America. Period. The odds are greater than 90% that you’ll be at LEAST middle class all your life. That’s just not possible in a racist country. Go ahead, prove that wrong.

I don’t deal in silly, unsupported assertions. I deal in facts. Facts are simply facts. They can’t be racist. You TALK a lot about facts, but you don’t ever present any. You present unsupported assertions. Then, when challenged to support your assertions, you simply say something like, “Oh there are too many to say here.” Oh? Then present one. Just one. It should be easy, if there are so many of them.

I’ve seen it happen many times and it pisses me off.

    My response:
I don’t know who has claimed to know you better than anyone else, but ANYONE can study ANY other group and know more about that group than most members of the group. That’s so obvious no one should need to point it out. So, if someone claimed to know more about black people than most black people, it’s entirely possible that the claim is true. Read “America in Black and White” by Stephan and Abigail Thernstrom, two white people. Then, YOU try to tell ME that the Thernstroms don’t know more about black people than the VAST majority of black people. There ARE black people who know more about white people than I do, and I know a LOT. Thomas Sowell, Jason Riley, for two. None of that is insulting. That’s simply the truth. The truth is NEVER insulting.

No one’s trying to “avoid your truth.” No one dismisses your life or your life experiences, but they are NOT useful as a way to understand the entire country. You keep trying to make your experiences, and your isolated anecdotes serve as a way to understand the country as a whole, and they just can’t do that. You need understanding of the experiences of tens, hundreds, of millions of others, and you constantly use just yours, or Trayvon Martin’s, or Michael Brown’s. Even if these experiences WERE as you said they were, they proved nothing whatsoever about the country as a whole, or about white people in general. George Zimmerman’s not even white, for crying out loud! He’s one of your so-called “people of color!”

Let’s be clear about something else as well. If you are “pissed off,” then you are CHOOSING to be “pissed off.” Your feelings and your temper are all yours to control. If you choose NOT to control them, that is no one’s fault but your own.

    My response:
Again, no one minimizes “what’s going on with that person or why is he/she in the state of mind that he/she is in,” but that’s NOT important in understanding what’s going on in the country! You make horrible charges against ALL white people based on the experiences of one person here and another person there. YOU accuse ME of being a racist, just because of the color of my skin. You said that there are “bad whites” who do bad things to black people and “good whites” who don’t stop the bad ones from doing bad things, which makes them jast as bad as the bad whites. YOUR words! Sorry, you can’t just say that and expect me, whom you have accused, to just sit there and take it. What, YOU get to accuse ME falsely and I just have to sit there and take it so someone’s tender feelings are not hurt? Hell no! You know where you can shove THAT idea!

BY the way, you have NO IDEA what “my nature” is. You don’t know me, you don’t know who or how I am; you don’t know “my nature,” how much I care about others’ problems, how much egotism I have, or don’t have, whether I’ve ever experienced rage, and you can’t EVER know what I, or others, have persuaded ourselves about our skin color. And you can’t know that about ANYONE else either! I’ll quote your own words: “you can never truly know anyone unless you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” YOU’VE never walked an INCH in my shoes! Why don’t you lay off the personal attacks and the insults, and just address the IDEAS I’ve advanced? I think I know why, though.

But try to convince me that you’re not soulless, mindless douchebags with one track minds, and maybe I’ll listen. Maybe.

    My response:
Again, if you would stop trying to read others’ minds, you would do a lot better. No one begrudges your right to speak your mind. You do NOT have the right just to slander others and expect them to roll over for it. I’ll quote YOUR headline: “Just Listen: A Message For Racist Trolls.” YOU called ME a racist. Instead of saying “F-You!” as you deserve, I’m simply defending myself, and if you don’t allow that defense then you are a scoundrel, and a racist one at that. You have the right to say anything you want, and I encourage you to exercise that right. But you do NOT have the right to harm innocent people, as you have done when you accuse me of racism. Do you have the courage to publish this, or will you censor it? If you censor it, I will, indeed, start my own blog and expose you for the fraud you are.

Looks as if YOU need to convince people of good will that YOU are not of a one-track mind. YOU are the one who bans others from his blog. YOU are the one who censors the thoughts and words of others. YOU are the one who, sa you have said many times, will NEVER believe anything other than what you believe now. I don’t know about you, but that’s called a “closed mind.” You need to open up that mind. Also, it would be a good thing if you could refrain from the really stupid things. Like pretending that you can know whether someone else is soulless or mindless. Do I need to quote YOUR OWN words about walking a mile in someone else’s shoes again?
    ————————————————————————-

    My response:
Again, you have no idea what I’ve listened to and haven’t listened to. Period. My feelings are not hurt, but I DO write in support of the truth and of justice. You have committed the injustice of making many, many racist accusations against ALL white people. That is an injustice that all decent people should rise up against. And, I can tell you for a fact that I have NEVER, ever “participated in damage” to a black person. Ever.
    ————————————————————————-

Look, BW, I’m guessing that you will not have the courage or character to post this, because you will simply do, again, all the things you ALWAYS do, that you THEN accuse OTHERS of doing: You won’t listen. You will dismiss MY experiences, and OTHERS’ experiences as irrelevant. You will NOT address the “mounds of evidence” that I have presented. Actual evidence! YOU will accuse ME of racism, when you yourself make blatantly racist statements all the time. You will pretend to know what is in the minds of others, which is, of course, something you couldn’t POSSIBLY ever know. You will make more racist assumptions and assertions. You’ll then play the victim and pretend that you’re under attack, when all that’s happened is that you’ve been proven wrong.

Again, the bottom line: you have the right to say whatever you want. You do NOT have the right to make scurrilous, false accusations against me, and against those who look like me, and expect us to take it lying down. Maybe YOU should act more like a civilized person and STOP making false, horrible accusations against innocent people. Maybe YOU should act more like a civilized person and LISTEN to OTHERS!
