Vern’s Venting: Racism Disguised as Something Else

by Lavern Merriweather

Years ago, back in the early 90’s, there was a huge controversy brewing over an album by one-time rap group Two Live Crew called “Bad as I Wanna Be”. Particularly, their hit song that got most of the brew ha-ha-ha “Me So Horny”. And I distinctly recall when my hero Irish singer/songwriter Sinead O’ Connor put her two cents in on the subject.

I’ll never forget it. It was at the MTV Video Awards, and she had just won the final statue of the night for her hit “Nothing Compares to You”. She came up on stage, but instead of thanking everyone as usual, she really went there on the powers-that-be and called them to the carpet. She said, and I quote, “Censorship itself is bad enough but racism disguised as censorship is even worse.”

Damn, is this a woman after my own heart or what?!

Not only do I completely agree, but it got me to thinking about how we black people allow white people to constantly get away with racism as long as they decorate it as other things like morality. Anyone who knows me by now or reads enough of my guest posts knows I’m no fan of the black people who criticize rap music. The main reason being that I feel it supports and perpetuates a blatantly racist mindset, one that says it’s perfectly acceptable if WE celebrate and glorify those images but you darkies have to be as pure as the driven snow, lest we think negatively of you. Which always takes me to the point of who exactly it is that Negroes are trying so damn hard to impress?

Those same white folks who never practice what they themselves preach, in fact,  go out of their way to do the exact opposite, all with the ever present willing aid of the high minded Negro crowd, even though they are fully aware that their attitude comes from a place of racism.

Don’t agree? Okay. Well, there was a commenter on Youtube who uttered the very same thing I did. She even capitalized all her words to emphasize her point. She said that the only reason for all the whining about rap was ‘because of the race of the artists’. If truer words have ever been spoken then, I have yet to hear them! Still, we go right along. Instead of calling white people on their phony self-righteous bullshit, we nod our heads. It continues to baffle me, especially when you take into account that we aren’t nearly as moral and pure of heart when it comes to what we watch that white people produce.

And please don’t give me that song and dance about negative influences. That’s the oldest cop-out.

If you find media images that offensive, then you should be offended by all of them not just some. This isn’t about morality. This is about white people being too full of shit to judge themselves, and black people being too chickenshit to tell them off.

Then we have comedians, many of whom use that worn out tired lame excuse that “It was just a joke.” Oh please! The only joke around here is you, asshole!

You know the ones I’m talking about like that blimp-ass, Ursula looking Lisa Lampanelli, a woman so racist that her head turns into a hooded point the longer she spews her bile.

There is also whiny little brat Sara Silverman who fits the very definition of a hipster racist asswipe. She tries to play that “Who me?” crap to the very hilt or hides behind her being Jewish because it’s impossible for Jews to be racist, right?!

And don’t get me started on that ugly, annoying, not funny for shit punk Carlos Mencia. You don’t get a free pass for being a man of color yourself. Matter of fact, I’m going to hit you harder than all the rest of them because you celebrate the very racism that you rail against, provided that you aren’t the target. He is the classic epitome of a sneaky weasely little bitch who tries to have it both ways and plays both sides off of each other. “I can’t be racist while speaking out about it. Can I?” Um, yes you can, stupid. So, don’t even attempt to pull that crap.

And if it’s not the media or comedians, then it’s the police of America who have manage to single handedly turned this country into more of a police state. They will forever use that bullshit about how it’s routine procedure, or they believed someone was behaving suspiciously.

Bullshit! You cocksuckers see Negroes in a place that you think they don’t belong. So, you harass them until they get so angry and frustrated that they never darken your doorstep again.

For instance, in my hometown of Chicago, three young black males were detained, frisked and treated like they were worse than Hitler in a very prestigious bank on the Southwest side. Why? Because one of them mentioned to his friend who was talking with an employee that he would be waiting for him in the car until he finished.

Well, oh my God! That sure sounds like a stone-cold criminal to me. Get the National Guard!

So, you mean to tell me that just because this man told his friend something completely innocent and innocuous, these assholes have to act like they just apprehended the 9/11 hijackers? Don’t think so? This is all about a systematic and part of the long standing mindset from many whites in the land.

It doesn’t surprise me in the least that some dumbasses on the message boards once again defended the cops overzealous and ridiculous actions, just like there are countless bitches on the web blogs trying to make lowlife murderer George Zimmerman out to be some kind of hero when there isn’t shit to justify what he did that night by following and then confronting this kid who just so happened to be walking down the street minding his own business, which is what that prick should have been doing instead of trying to be Wyatt Earp reincarnated. But it happens every damn time some trigger-happy fuck with either an overbearing sense of authority or entitlement thinks that they can become the Gestapo. Provided that they target the “right” people, you damn sure won’t hear or read too many stories like this occurring in neighborhoods where people have less melanin, even when they have 50 bodies buried in the basement or have body parts in their freezer for dinnertime delicacies.

Is that the main group of folks that police departments should on the lookout for? No, they would rather berate and bully those just going home to plop down on the couch or take care of their finances. Or just walking down the street carrying a soda and a bag of skittles. Somehow having this skin tone makes their life on contract. In the meantime many of us do nothing but sit back, shake our heads, hang them down or have them up our ass. I guess these days you have to apologize for being the shade you were born in, the same way we allow the racists to shade their racism in a cloak of something else.

  1. (Stands up, and starts to clap loudly) for this post here Vern! yes, I do remember quite clearly that day the heroic and awesome Si’nnead took the stage and say those famous words-not to mention how she boldly stood up for the countless numbers of Catholic children being abused when she on SNL (Saturday Night Live) too! I was always a mega fan of her unique and conscientious music for the longest, and this just sealed the deal even further. Have you ever heard of her song titled “Black Boys on Mopeds”? It’s very profound, and a classic that stand up to the test of time!
