Watertown Shooting, More Boston Drama

From CBS Boston:

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – An MIT Police officer has died after he was shot near the Stata Center on campus Thursday night. A pursuit and shootout in Watertown early Friday morning may be connected to the shooting.

MIT sent out an alert to students telling them to stay indoors as officers checked the campus. The shooting occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m.

The Middlesex DA’s office says the officer was responding to a report of a disturbance in the area of Vassar and Main streets when he was shot multiple times.

He was transported to the hospital and pronounced dead. State Police, K9 units and the Air Wing were assisting in the search.

At about 1 a.m. Friday morning, officers from several agencies were involved in a pursuit into Watertown. It is unknown if it was connected to the shooting at MIT. A WBZ employee on the scene says one person has been taken into custody in Watertown near Mt. Auburn Street and Dexter Street.

A witness says he heard explosions and gunshots before the suspect was taken into custody. WBZ-TV’s Lauren Leamanczyk reports that the National Guard is at the crime scene in Watertown.

  1. @BW This is a real tragedy. And it seems the media has everyone captivated by this manhunt of the bombers. But do you ever get the feeling you’re watching a reality show? The mainstream media just has a fake feeling to it. But the masses don’t seem to care. They just want their monthly dose of drama. They have us hooked on one crisis after another. Hopefully one day we’ll wake the hell up.

    1. I tweeted last night that in a few years, there will be a movie based on this with brown-skinned actors as the terrorists. The main stars will be a cop played by a white man and the story will spin to make it more attractive to the audience.
