After assuming another identity and blog page this year, I felt a little more free than I was using my old site. I felt that I could type what was on my mind without holding back. This is a perfect place for me to vent my frustrations.
Even though I’m not the best writer in the blogosphere, I feel I’ve improved a little as the months went by. I still need to work on some colorful wit, and gather more information as I still have a lot to learn about the issue that are left out of the mainstream. I’ve already learned so much within the past year thanks to fellow bloggers on the top right side of the homepage, and I hope that in the year 2012, they will teach me more. My door is always open to them and their friends and colleagues.
Unfortunately, not everyone are as willing or able to want to hear, or in this case read, what people such as myself have to say about living in the kind of world we are forced to live in. They flaunt their egos around in places where their ideals and beliefs are contradicted just to argue against the sanctuary while foolishly proving them right in the process. It has become so common that everything they will say is expected, like they’ve learned to recite the same line over and over again. So, some bloggers have decided to shut them up before they get a chance to press the keyboard while others decide to use them as perfect examples of people lost in their own mental junkyards.
One of my main issues, even before I started blogging, was the media’s problem with race. However, the media also has serious problems when it comes to gender, sexuality, age, beauty, and religion. The mainstream media continues to project watered down images of certain groups of people apparently because the general public, which in itself has problems regarding how they see the world outside its shelter, wants to see more of those groups through a limited view.
The media gives the public (or most of it) what they want, and at the same time force feeds the public what they think is entertaining and newsworthy. It is to be expected that we are served junk food journalism, biased news reporting, and dumbed-down entertainment on a daily basis all for the sake of ratings and maintaining the status quo’s power. In the end the media doesn’t challenge power, but it covers for power. It is not above racism because it promotes racism. It doesn’t present the world through an unfiltered lens, nor does it allow many people to tell their stories and present the world through other dimensions. In the end one group, a few stories, certain storytellers and pundits, and those with a certain view of the world are “allowed” to use the mainstream media’s outlets.
The only answer against such images is counter them. Create your own media. Tell your own stories. It is futile to expect the Western media to broadcast or print anything other than the minds of one group of people. So, you have to be the voice for the voiceless. You must be the storytellers to those tired of the same single stories told endlessly. You have to be the reporter that will challenge the powers-that-be’s style of news, and you have to make people think, not insult their intelligence.
White racism is a cancer to humanity. Those who subscribe to it contribute to the destruction it brings to everyone, including white people. It is useless to try to deny it or defend it, and those who do are sick beyond their own realization.
During 2011, I’ve had the unpleasant chance to meet certain bloggers and people online who not only support white supremacy, but revel in it. The sad truth is that not all of them are whites. Some of them are people of color (PoC) who are programmed to see whiteness as superior tool for normalcy. They are so blinded that they believe they are better than their fellow people, and, like most white racists, think any objections against their insanity is not worth considering for even a second.
Whiteness is a drain on mankind’s spirit of morality and intelligence. It devoids individuals, groups, and nations of seeing beyond a white lens while upholding the myths pertaining to pale skin. It dehumanizes PoC while giving advantages to those of European descent creating a virtual false definition of humanity for all who are born into it.
Whiteness can only be remedied by those, including white people, who have the courage to challenge it. It can not die through ignorance and fear, but with wisdom, and open heart and mind, and the willingness to examine it completely. Only then will the matrix of whiteness and the doctrine of white supremacy will likely to start dissolving into the mess it spawned from.
Gentlemen, brothas, fellow males, and boys, we must must confronting the social privileges we have over women. Just like there are advantages of being white in a white dominated society, there are privileges that come with having a penis in a male dominated society. There is no doubt that the United States is a white male dominated society where white males have benefits over other groups, including white women to a certain extent. Still, some white men believe that they are now the oppressed group. I’ve yet to see how their “oppression” holds any weight against the oppression still conducted against men and women of color.
Even so, male privilege isn’t just limited to white men. I’ve learned that black men, also to a certain extent, have privileges over black women. Yes, I know that we are still oppressed and subjected to racism on a constant basis, but we need to examine our own social advantages over black women.
As men we must learn about what it means to be a man in regards to how we treat and view women, children and ourselves. We must take a good, long look at the male mindset that confines us to a limited space taking away our basic humanity on personal and public avenues. By doing so, we will become more free to be human beings.
A Person of Color:
Some people can not believe that even in the new millennium, PoC are still victims of racism. Well, believe it. As a person of color in a white racist nation this comes with the territory. I think I speak for a lot of us when we say that we are forced into accept the white man’s world while he doesn’t want to accept ours. It’s a trial that can take a toll on one’s life to be reduced as less-than-important enough to listen to, and that’s what we have to deal with everyday for life.
This society will go out of its way and without your consent to tell you what’s wrong with you while making it seem that the white person’s only problems are us. It’s this white supremacist society’s objective to make you feel different while making whiteness seem normal. It is not an overstatement, it’s a fact of life. Period.
However, PoC are survivors, and we know that the kind of world we live is severely unbalanced in favor of whiteness. We are aware that the sign of times changing are hear as PoC around the world are becoming more and more resistant against white supremacy. We know that this power structure can not last forever, and there are signs that the cracks within its structure are widening.
Yet, most white people refuse to see those cracks no matter how many times we point them out. They seem to be content with the fact that they are white more than consider that the world they’ve created is a monster that is killing everyone and everything, including themselves. What does this reveal about them?
I was a young kid once. We all were at some point. Growing up was hard back then, but it there were some good times. Still, all were teaching experiences. As I look back in the year of 2011, young people here and around the world have shown that they are more aware of the world around them than we give them credit for.
This society, in particular, see fit to demonize young people for the ills of society. None knows more about being poster children for deviance than black and brown youth. You hardly hear any positive news or attributions from many people concerning youth of color. Yet, those same people are quick to throw them under the bus to teach them a thing or too.
The problem is that the youth have a lot to say about today’s most important issues regarding education, jobs, crime, and being treated with respect, but many adults won’t hear them unless they become part of the problem themselves. We’ve seen that here in America, England, and Egypt. The youth have a lot on their minds, and they need someone to listen to them. As adults we believe that only we can teach the youth people how to succeed, but we are not above being schooled by the youth.
I’m no expert on the political system, but it still fails me nonetheless. This year has shown me that honest and noble politicians are few and far in between. Those in office seem to be okay with the fact that we live in the worst recession since the Reagan years, and possible the biggest economic disaster since the Great Depression. Even if they are not okay, they seem not to be intelligent enough to repair this problem let alone acknowledge it and how it came to be. They, who are supposed to be leaders for the people, seem to cater the wants of those greatly responsible for this crisis while leaving us out with the scraps.
I’ve reached the conclusion that politics is not about community service as it should be, but its about business, strictly business. While the big wigs who have caused us to be in the economic state that we’re in get a pass, those who are victims of their debauchery get screwed. The majority of political leaders continue to please the outrageously wealthy by any means. It no longer matters if they are liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican, one way or another, you will get the short of the stick. Whether there’s an objective to suppress people to vote, give tax cuts to the rich (like they needed it), and budget cuts toward education, it makes one wonder why there is a need to vote in the first place.
The political and economic systems are in dire need of an overhaul. More and more people are realizing that truth. It’s a shame that these so-called leaders want to continue to promote an amusement park ride that’s teetering on the brink of collapse.
I want to thank you all who came by to visit my humble den. Without you, I wouldn’t have met such intelligent, talented people such as yourselves. I hope that you will continue to be around for the new year, and I hope you will continue to fight against injustices with the use of your words. I still welcome your thoughts, information, and opinions as we enter another year for all people.
